Top of Africa - Mt. Kilimanjaro
Day 1: Nairobi-Moshi Catch the shuttle bus at 8:00 am and leave for Moshi in Tanzania via the border town of Namanga. On the way you enjoy beautiful scenery in both Kenya and Tanzania. Lunch will be in Arusha. You arrive in Moshi at 3:00 pm. You meet your guide and porters to conduct a final check on your mountain equipment . Dinner and overnight at the Royal Crown or chosen hotel.
Day 2: Mandara Hut Leave Moshi town at 8:00 am and drive east of the mountain to Marangu gate. Begin your hike at 10:00 am through the rain forest to Mandara Hut which is situated on a volcanic cone (9000ft - 4 hour hike). On the way you see Colubus and blue monkeys. Dinner and overnight at Mandara Hut.
Day 3: Horombo Hut: The day's goal is Horombo Hut(12334 ft), which will take about 6 hours to complete.. The main vegetation you travel through will be lower heather land with small shrubs. Giant lobelias begin to appear at 11000 ft and spectacular views of Mawezi and Kibo peaks can be viewed. Dinner and overnight at Horombo Hut.
Day 4: Horombo Hut: Wake up early to get nice photos of the sunrise. Park and begin hike to Kibo Huts. You ascend to the saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo. The walking pace is slow due to high altitude and low temperatures. It will take about 7 hours. Diner and overnight at Kibo Hut( 19,342ft).
Day 5: Gilman's Point - Uhuru Peak: After a light breakfast at 1:00am start the hike to ensure that you reach Gilman's point by dawn to witness a breathtaking sunrise. Gilman's point is on a crater rim. If climbers feel energetic they can hike one and a half hours further to Uhuru peak, descend back to Horombo via Kibo. Eat Dinner and get some well-deserved rest.
Day 6: Mandara Hut: After breakfast, descend to Mandara Hut for lunch. Descend further to the Peak gate where you catch your truck back to Moshi for dinner and overnight.
Day 7: Nairobi: Depart from Moshi in the morning to arrive in Nairobi later in the afternoon.
